Market Style Revisited.

If you want to get the feel of what the Control Tower was like in those early days, this is the mix to take you there, musically (I still live there you know). The selection is pretty straightforward exhibition of 7" soundkilling tunes, but I remember being pleased with this one, actually I might make a part 3 with some of the tunes that didn´t fit in this one when I have time.

Enjoy!

(Dont be alarmed by the five minute intro, I had just got my Zoom Sampletrak and went a little overboard)

Our Sisters in the struggle...

Jamaican dancing is crazy. It is demented.
You´ll probably never see me trying to keep up with the latest trends in that particular area, no sire Bob. So if you were expecting me to post a video where I´m jumping from a table, expertly placing my crotchical area smack bang in a female ditto, thrusting violently, or perhaps flinging around poor helpless girls like bottles in that Tom Cruise-movie where he plays a bartender, you will be sorely disappointed. I have enough problems standing straight, not stepping on some sinister badman sneaker-toe and to avoid whipping somebody in their face with my locks.

Luckily I know a few girls that can do all that and more, and get away with it: the lovely Enough Dancers. They have their own blog, much nicer than this one actually. Go over there and check it out, but be on your best behaviour.

Well I, on the other hand, am Choppa. And I come to make things proper. Or at least post some of my drunken late-night ravings mainly because there is nobody else to do it. The year 2010 might not carry any significance in the Mayan Calender but let those without wisdom mock and belittle, it does not matter at all. Six years ago those same people would have pointed their crusty ass fingers and smugly dismissed the notion of a mighty soundkilling army engulfing the whole of Southside Stockholm and eventually the world. Sure, we´re not there yet, there is still a LOT of work to be done, but considering the fact that the first skirmishes Concrete Steppa sound faced were with badminded neighbours calling in noise complaints at exactly 22:01 on a friday night, we sure have improved. Which is proper.

We started out recording mixtapes (on actual cassettes) in the infamous Control Tower, using 7-inch records I had shoplifted at MEGA and my mothers old reggae collection from the 70s. I bought a pair of Stanton Str-8 60s and a mixer and it took me a week or so to get the mixing down. After that we pooled our money to order more music from Ernieb, OJ36, and once (never again) from those greedy krauts at Soundquake.com. It was all a learning process for all of us and our first gigs were things like student pubs (where they somehow mistook us for After-ski DJ:s or something), weddings and shit like that. If you ask me today, I´ll tell you that was where we built our sound, where we learned from our mistakes and so on, but at the time it felt like going nowhere fast on a malfunctioning rollercoaster. I remember one night when I pulled up the tune so violently, I accidentaly knocked Danjah in the face with my elbow. We stuck with it though, because we are die-hard visionaries and revolutionary-style music lovers hell-bent on doing things OUR way. Bruises fade away and playing good music can be hard work, SHOULD be hard work, because the spoils that we will reap later on will ultimately make it all worthwile.

Hmm, yes, a little trip down memory lane to the bad old days there, for those of you who were not with us at the time. The army has grown, and in 2010, the chinese year of the Golden Tiger, there is no turning back. Every tune we play, every song or video we record and produce and every dance we buss (Badman Sickan 2 de woooorlllld!) is proof that we are an unstoppable force, grown out of the humblest of origins, and those who refuse to join, or at least pay the proper respect will be mauled brutally and left to bleed out slowly in the Concrete Jungle. Make no mistake: this is the year when we tek it to de fuckers dem.
